Program would actually save more than $2 trillion
RICH LOWRY recently opined in your opinion section that Medicare-for-all is a “completely batty, politically unserious idea.” He cited a cost estimate study recently issued by the Mercatus Center, which projects that federal government spending would increase by almost $33 trillion during the first 10 years. What he fails to note is that the same study concluded that under Medicare-for-all, overall national health expenditures, which includes health spending by private parties, state governments and the federal government, would actually decrease by $2.054 trillion over the same period of time — at the same time that the coverage of health care needs would improve by 89 percent. Why would Rich Lowry deliberately avoid discussion of these important factual considerations? Such fake news. So sad.
