SPORTS SPEAK UP!
UNM ATHLETICS under the gun for bad management and being overbudget (again), and says sports may need to be cut. Weeks later UNM regents agree to cuts. Several legislators says UNM should have asked for money. AG says regents’ meeting illegal and need to meet again. UNM athletics suddenly in the black because, poof, money appears out of nowhere. Regents will meet again. There will be an overflow crowd in attendance. Sports will be reinstated. Legislature will allocate more money. And the cycle of waste will continue.

AG BALDERAS: There’s no reason to pour salt on the wound. Our UNM athletics community has suffered enough to repeat the anguish. Better yet, why don’t you investigate and open cases on those that brought us to this point. — Manny G. from the Hub City THE PIVOTAL GAME on UNM’s football schedule is NMSU in Las Cruces on Sept. 15. I’m not sure what the late, great track star at UNM, John Baker would think--but a couple years ago the local elementary school that bears his name began a “buddy bench” system where kids could go and sit if they were looking for a friend and someone would approach them in-kind. If the Lobos lose to the Aggies for the third consecutive year, UNM’s coaches and players can take a trip up Comanche Blvd. and rotate taking their spot on that bench. — Lobo FB Fan
EX AHS ALUMNI Johnny Tapia and Bob Foster absolutely need to be joined by Valley High’s Danny Romero in the NM Sports HOF. These 3 men are considered some of the best in their weight classes ever, all come from ABQ. neighborhoods within a couple mile radius. Amazing!
