Author to discuss Navajo foods, dietary practices

Johnson Frisbie will sign “Food Sovereignt­y the Navajo Way: Cooking with Tall Woman” at 3 p.m. today.

This is the first book to focus on the dietary practices of the Navajos from the earliest known times into the present and relate them to the Navajo Nation’s participat­ion in the food sovereignt­y movement. She will also sign at 4 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 18, at Page One, 5850 Eubank NE.

Alfred Corchado will sign and discuss “Homelands” at 6 p.m. Monday, Aug. 13.

The book merges the political and the personal, telling the story of the last great Mexican migration through the eyes of four friends at a time when the Mexican population in the U.S. swelled from 700,000 during the 1970s to more than 35 million today. It is the narrative of the U.S. in a painful economic and political transition.

Dos Gatos Press conducts “Wingbeats,” its free monthly poetry writing workshop, at 6 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 14.

Jerry Mitchell will sign “Killing Godiva’s Horse” at 6 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 16.

Ranger Jack Chastain returns in “Killing Godiva’s Horse,” set in national parks on opposite sides of the world. What’s at stake? Lives, heritage and truth. Chastain is pulled into battle by a man trying to start a Western lands rebellion. Chastian is sent to Kenya to finish the research of a scientist killed by rhino poachers.
