Gladys Hatsue Minei Komesu, On Monday, August 6, 2018, Gladys Hatsue Minei Komesu, loving wife and mother, passed away at the age of 96.

Gladys was born on February 28, 1922, in Koloa, Kauai, Territory of Hawaii. After assorted jobs, including housekeepe­r, nanny, and seamstress, she graduated from the Kauai School of Nursing as a Registered Nurse.

Gladys married Nathan Nobuji Komesu in 1947. Nathan, a research chemist, worked for the University of Hawaii and UCLA. They raised their two sons, John and Andrew, in Hawaii and Los Angeles, to follow grant funding. Gladys worked and retired from Santa Monica Hospital. Gladys loved country music, babies, pets, cooking, sewing, reading (especially mysteries) and doting on her grandchild­ren. She had many friends and was known for her laughter and constant happiness. Gladys was preceded in death by her husband, Nathan, eldest granddaugh­ter, Megan and youngest grandson, Andrew.

She is survived by her sons, John and his wife Ann, and Andrew and his wife Mary; four grandchild­ren, Patrick, Kristen, Leilani and Reiko and three great grand-children. Memorial services will be held on Saturday, September 8, 2018 at 10:00 a.m. at the Central United Methodist Church, 1615 Copper Ave. NW.
