Council confirms Duhigg as city clerk
Mayor says appointee will take the office ‘to the next level’
Albuquerque city councilors on Monday confirmed Katy Duhigg as city clerk.
The vote was 8-0, with Councilor Don Harris unable to attend the meeting.
Duhigg will serve as the city’s chief records custodian, conduct municipal elections, and manage administrative hearings related to vehicle seizures, animal appeals, handicapped parking and personnel matters.
“With more than a decade working to make government more open and responsive, our new city clerk, Katy Duhigg, has the experience to take the clerk’s office to the next level,” Mayor Tim Keller said in a statement released after Monday’s vote. “Now that Katy Duhigg is confirmed by Council, we will be working together to improve processes that promote transparency at the city.”
Duhigg told the Journal that, if
confirmed, she would resign duties as vice president of Common Cause New Mexico, a nonpartisan, grass-roots organization dedicated to fair elections, and as a member of the Bernalillo County Code of Conduct Review Board.
She will also resign from positions on the Bernalillo County Valuation Protest Board, and as governance council member and executive board secretary with RFK Charter School.
Duhigg is a graduate of the University of Oregon and the University of New Mexico School of Law. She was born and raised in Albuquerque.
She is managing partner of the Duhigg Law Firm, where she focuses on election law and consumer protection cases.
