CATCHES OF THE WEEK

Dominik Gow, 10, of Albuquerqu­e, caught a 42-inch tiger muskie Aug. 20 at Bluewater Lake. He was using a frog lure.

Leon Baca of Albuquerqu­e caught a 7-pound, 6-ounce, largemouth bass Aug. 19 at Conchas lake. He was using a ¼-ounce snow white Booyah buzz bait.

Ethan Romero of Mora caught a 22-inch rainbow trout Sunday at Eagle Nest Lake. He was using a Panther Martin spinner tipped with sherbet PowerBait.

David Guzman Garcia caught and released an 18½-inch, 4½-pound walleye Aug. 21 at Elephant Butte Lake. He was using a chartreuse rooster tail.

Mary Vaughn of Farmington caught a 12-pound catfish Aug. 22 at Navajo Lake. She was fishing for bass up the Pine Arm of the lake and using a plastic worm.

Darrell Cypress Smith, 10, of Albuquerqu­e, caught and released a 30-inch, 7-pound, channel catfish Aug. 19 at Tingley Beach. He was fishing the youth pond and using hot dogs.

SHADY LAKES: Trout ponds were recently stocked. Trout are biting on nightcrawl­er worms, salmon eggs and PowerBait. Catch and release large mouth bass and bluegill activity is strong. Bass are ranging 2½-4½ pounds. Bass/bluegill are biting on plastics and top water lures. Open Labor Day weekend, 6 a.m.-6 p.m.

NOTES from GAME & FISH

Streamflow on the SAN JUAN RIVER below Navajo Lake was reduced on Monday afternoon to 750 cfs. Fishing was good using dead chickens, minimacs, red annelids, hoppers, ants, root beers, RS2s and zebra midges for brown and rainbow trout. Through the bait waters, fishing was good using night crawlers, PowerBait, jerk baits, daredevils, terrestria­ls, RS2s and copper John Barrs.

At NAVAJO LAKE, fishing was good using chatter baits, senkos, swim jigs, crank baits, finesse worms, tubes and curly tail grubs for smallmouth bass and largemouth bass.

At ELEPHANT BUTTE LAKE, fishing was excellent using white, chrome and chartreuse slab spoons, blade baits and crank baits for white bass. Fishing was very good using top water lures, jerk baits, senkos, creature baits, chatter baits and crank baits for largemouth bass and smallmouth bass. Fishing was good using liver, cut bait and shrimp for catfish.

Streamflow on the RIO GRANDE below Elephant Butte Monday morning was 948 cfs. Fishing was good using cut bait, liver, shrimp and night crawlers for channel catfish.

Streamflow on the RIO GRANDE on Monday morning at the Taos Junction Bridge was 159 cfs. Fishing was good using crane flies, bead-head hare’s ears, bead-head pheasant tails, elk hair caddis, gold spinners, PowerBait and night crawlers for brown and rainbow trout.

At EAGLE NEST LAKE, fishing was excellent using PowerBait and worms for perch.

Monday morning flows on the CHAMA RIVER below El Vado and Abiquiu were 604 cfs and 649 cfs, respective­ly. Trout fishing below El Vado was very good using terrestria­ls, prince nymphs, zebra midges, renegades and night crawlers for brown and rainbow trout.

At MONASTERY LAKE, fishing was good using PowerBait, salmon eggs, worms, Panther Martins and Pistol Petes for trout.

Streamflow on the PECOS RIVER near the town of Pecos on Monday was 37.4 cfs. Fishing was very good using prince nymphs, elk hair caddis, worms, salmon eggs and PowerBait for trout.

Streamflow on the RED RIVER below the hatchery on Monday morning was 40.9 cfs. Trout fishing was good using prince nymphs, terrestria­ls, worms, salmon eggs and PowerBait.

Fishing at UTE LAKE was good using blade baits and slab spoons for white bass.

At BILL EVANS LAKE, fishing was good using chicken liver, hot dogs and night crawlers for catfish.

Fishing at BRANTLEY LAKE was good using slab spoons, Mepps spinners, Rooster Tails and crank baits for white bass.
