Louie Aragon

1931-2018 Louie Aragon, age 87, a life-long resident of Belen passed away peacefully at his home on September 4, 2018. He was a member of Our Lady of Belen Catholic Church and he enjoyed serving his church as a longtime usher and member of the Knights of Columbus. Louie served in the US Army during the Korean War. Louie was a long-time barber, owning and operating Louie’s Modern Barber Shop on Belen’s Main Street for well over 45 years. He was a longtime San Francisco 49ers fan and he loved riding his scooter all around his beloved Belen. At a very young age, Louie loved going with his family to Aragon, NM, where they owned and ran a large sheep ranch. At the age of 12 his family moved to Livingston, CA, where he graduated from high school in 1950. Louie met his beloved wife, Anthony, after coming from California to attend a funeral. They soon married and moved to California, where they lived for 10 years, then moving back to Belen to raise their family. His pride and joy were his children, grandchild­ren and great-grandchild­ren. Nothing pleased him more than when he was surrounded by all of his family. Louie was preceded in death by his loving wife of 40 years, Anthony Baca Aragon, in 1997, 2 children; Bobby and Jaclyn Aragon, one granddaugh­ter, Dailyn Aragon, his parents Fermin and Librada Garcia Aragon, 4 siblings; Andrew Aragon, Eloisa Lucaroni, Bennie Aragon and Kady Mendoza, his in-laws Nora and Narciso Ulivarri and Tom Gallegos. He is survived by his 3 loving children; Rosalyn (Henry) Romero, Vicki Aragon and Louie (Jackie) Aragon II, 8 loving grandchild­ren and 10 loving great-grandchild­ren. Also one brother, Albert (Evelyn) Aragon, one sister, Ymelda (Phil) York, 3 sisters-in-law; Lillian and Ruby Aragon and Florinda Gallegos. Louie is also survived by his many loving cousins, nieces and nephews. His friend and companion Martha Torres became a big part of his and his family’s life. All services will be held at Our Lady of Belen Catholic Church, beginning with a Public Viewing on Friday, September 7, 2018, at 5:00 PM, with a Rosary to be recited at 6:00 PM. Final Visitation will be on Saturday, September 8, 2018, at 11:30 AM, with a Funeral Mass to be celebrated at 12:30 PM. Interment will follow at Our Lady of Belen Memorial Gardens. Pallbearer­s will be Joseph Aragon, Ambros Montoya, Jared Romero, Jared Adams, BJ Taipalus, Herman Gallegos, Rafael Ulivarri, Patrick Aragon and Gil Aragon.
