Fernie A. Caplan, 84, peacefully passed away at home Tuesday morning, September 11th, 2018 surrounded by her loving family. Married in 1956 to Reuben Caplan, Fernie was the daughter of Estelle and Joe Bernstein who came to Albuquerqu­e from Denver in 1933. Fernie graduated from Highland High School and attended Univ. of Colorado and UNM. She was a trained dental assistant having studied in California, and loved to talk about her experience at Brandeis Camp. Fernie was a member of Congregati­on B’nai Israel where she held many offices in the B’nai Israel Sisterhood, and also volunteere­d for over 30 years in the synagogue office. She also enjoyed volunteeri­ng in the fitness center of the North Domingo Baca Multigener­ational Center. Fernie is survived by her husband Reuben of 62 years. She always said they were married so long because he made her laugh. She is also survived by her four daughters, Mindy Caplan, Connie Wareham (Mark), Susan Caplan-Mileshosky (Robert), Pamela Henderson (Michael); seven grandchild­ren, Alyssa Mora (Jerry), Shauna Caplan-Taute (Joey), Julie Saavedra (Michael), Lindsey Wareham, Amanda Wareham-Cline (Tim), Eric Henderson, and Jamie Henderson; her great grandchild­ren, Avery Mora, MacKenzie Mora, Ella Saavedra, Sophia Saavedra, Amelia (Minnie) Wareham, Lily Wareham, Brooks Taute and Owen Taute: her brother Mel Bernstein (Dorothy) and their children, Jeff, Ellen, Dana Pulliam (Randy), Rachel and daughter, Susanna May (Don) and sons; and her life-long dearest friend Judith Greenfeld. Fernie was dearly loved and was a beacon of sunshine for everyone she knew. Fernie wished to thank Rabbi Arthur Flicker, “Aunt” Judy Greenfeld, Dr. Suzanne Pinon, nurse Amy Harris, and all her friends and family for their tender loving care during the final stages of her life. Graveyard services will be held 11am Friday, September 14th, 2018 at Fairview Cemetery, 700 Yale SE. Shiva service and reception will follow at Congregati­on B’nai Israel. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to Congregati­on B’nai Israel, 4401 Indian School Rd. NE 87110
