Oppose Judge Kavanaugh

-

I AM writing to encourage my fellow citizens to write or call their senators regarding the confirmation of Judge (Brett) Kavanaugh to the Supreme Court. I have concluded based on his performance before the Senate Judiciary Committee that he is not in step with the majority of the American women and their position on reproductive rights. Although Judge Kavanaugh stated that Roe v Wade is established law, this does not preclude a 5-4 conservative court from revisiting Roe. We have seen what a conservative activist court has done to the Voting Rights Act or the disastrous Citizens United. We, as American women, cannot count on Judge Kavanaugh to have our rights in mind.

I encourage you to think about the possible ramifications of a Kavanaugh appointment to the bench. Realizing the process by which Judge Kavanaugh was chosen; from the Federalist Society with the litmus test being overturning Roe v. Wade, serious reflection is required to protect our country from possible harm by a 5-4 activist conservative court.

Along with the Roe v. Wade, there are other issues of racial profiling and his expansive view of executive privilege. Again, I encourage careful thought regarding his stance regarding the inability of the president to be indicted or subpoenaed. Last I heard the constitution stated no one is above the law. I believe, among many others, that a Kavanaugh confirmation will help to set back the social progress our country has made with great struggle. Do we really want to go backward?

Call or write your senators and let your voice be heard. Remember the voice of the people holds significant power. We are a nation built by, of and for the people. Vote! MARTA LICHLYTER
