TorC celebrates its hot springs culture with Ok-tub-erfest
Truth or Consequences is playing on its relaxed hot spring culture to commemorate Oktoberfest with a twist.
Truth or Consequences Brewing Co. in collaboration with Me Gusta World Street Food are putting on the first Ok-Tub-erfest on Sept. 22.
“We did a similar event last year, but that was more of a grand opening Oktoberfest weekend,” said Gaelan Brown, co-owner of Me Gusta World Street Food. “This year we’re trying to make it more of a festive theatrical theme, and the Ok-Tub-erfest, we’re trying to remind them that there’s hot tubs everywhere, and we knew people would think we were talking tubes, because there’s also tubing down the river.”
In addition to promoting hot tubs and tubing Ok-Tub-erfest is promoting “Dudeism,” a type of lifestyle inspired by the Dude, the bathrobe-wearing main character in the film “The Big Lebowski.” The film celebrates its 20th anniversary this year.
A “The Big Lebowski”-themed parade, a costume contest, an impromptu talent show, live music and lawn games also will be part of the event which will center around Truth or Consequences Brewing Co. The brewery also will release two German-style beers as part of the festivities. The Festbier is a smooth, clean, pale German lager with a moderately strong malty flavor and a light hop character.
The Dunkelweizen is a moderately dark German wheat beer with a distinctive bananaand-clove yeast character, supported by a toasted bread or caramel malt flavor, according to tasting notes provided by the brewery.
