IMMACULATE CONCEPTION PARISH

will be celebratin­g the 150th anniversar­y of the Jesuits on Sept. 22 from 3-7 p.m., with a night of food, fun and Christian fellowship. provides free groceries to over 3,500 seniors, and to about 1,200 grandchild­ren many of these seniors are raising. A small, local nonprofit making a big, positive difference in the lives of so many of our elderly. But we can’t help these struggling seniors (people just like our parents and grandparen­ts, and the elderly neighbor living alone) without volunteers. Our thrift store at San Mateo just north of Candelaria is staffed by volunteers, and raises funds to support our free groceries for seniors program. an adult literacy program, is looking for volunteers to assist adult learners in speaking, reading and writing in English. No teaching or foreign language experience necessary. We use an all-English approach and have trainers to lead you and your learner down the path to success. We offer free training for English as a Second Language and Basic Literacy Tutoring, followed by a 3-4 hour workshop after you’ve been matched. Orientatio­n is Thursday, Sept. 20, at 10 a.m. or 6 p.m. The ESL tutor training is Saturday, Sept. 22, from 9 a.m.-5 p.m. The B.L. Orientatio­n is Thursday, Oct. 18, at 10 a.m. or 6 p.m. The B.L.
