THE INTERNAL REVENUE SERVICE (IRS) is sponsoring a New Business Workshop from 8:30 a.m.-4 p.m. at the New Mexico Taxation and Revenue Dept., Bank of the West Building, Second Floor Conference Center, 5301 Central Ave NE. The workshop is for participan­ts who have a brand-new business; are thinking about starting a business; or have an existing business. A volunteer for the Internal Revenue Service will present record keeping, selecting the right type of business entity, expenses, office in the home, depreciati­on and basic forms. The workshop also includes a brief Issues for New Businesses segment to introduce you to other state and federal regulation­s and informatio­n resources. In addition, the New Mexico Taxation and Revenue Department explains gross receipts tax, including how to file, taxable and nontaxable transactio­ns and record keeping.
