PROMOTER FOR THE FAIR
Alyssa Marable will promote and advocate for next year’s event
This year’s State Fair queen, a top competitor in rodeo and pistol shooting, is eager to take on her task of promoting the fair and the sport of rodeo.
Alyssa Marable has been crowned the New Mexico State Fair Queen for next year in a tradition that puts her in place to promote and advocate for the annual event and rodeo throughout coming months.
Marable, a Las Cruces native currently studying equine science at New Mexico State University, said her goals include owning a ranch for rehabilitated horses.
She said she is “super excited for this year,” and ready to learn all there is to know about her new responsibilities, according to a news release.
A panel of three judged the contest, crowning Marable this past Saturday during the waning days of the fair. Scores were added together to give one averaged score for each contestant. Contestants were judged on horsemanship, personality and personal interviews.
The first runner-up was DeAnne Guthrie of Curry County and the second attendant was Cathryn Wellborn of Socorro County.
Aside from rodeo, Marable said she is proud of her achievements in competition pistol shooting. During her time in 4-H, she was among the top 10 ranked pistol shooters in the country.
According to Queens Contest guidelines, the objective is to determine an official representative of the fair who will serve as an ambassador to the general public, exhibiting exceptional sportsmanship. She should be able to speak with authority, and with knowledge about the New Mexico State Fair, the State of New Mexico and the sport of rodeo.
