Steelers’ Tomlin: Ignore Brown’s tweet about a trade

-

PITTSBURGH — Mike Tomlin doesn’t like talking about the way his players use social media. The Pittsburgh Steelers coach would prefer to stick to football.

Antonio Brown, however, isn’t giving his boss much choice.

Tomlin said he plans to speak to the All-Pro wide receiver “directly” after Brown caused a bit of a commotion — again — by taking to Twitter to vent after a former team employee suggested Brown’s stardom is a result of playing with quarterback Ben Roethlisberger.

Brown responded by tweeting “trade me let’s find out.” When asked Tuesday if one of the NFL’s most dynamic players has asked to be moved, Tomlin responded “no, no” and laughed.

Still, Tomlin believes the seemingly incessant inquiries about Brown’s online behavior is growing tiresome.

“It’s important that we understand our position, the light that shines on us and the responsibility that comes with it,” Tomlin said.

Tomlin plans to provide Brown with a reminder today when the team returns to practice. VIKINGS: Minnesota signed kicker Dan Bailey, owner of the second-best field goal percentage in NFL history and the replacement for rookie Daniel Carlson. Bailey’s deal was done Tuesday, after the Vikings waived Carlson fresh from his 0-for-3 game at Green Bay.

The fifth-round draft pick from Auburn missed field goal tries of 48, 49 and 35 yards, with the last two failed tries coming in overtime and forcing the Vikings to settle for a 29-29 tie with the rival Packers.

FALCONS: Offensive guard Andy Levitre is out after a season-ending triceps injury, the third player to go down with a major injury in the first two weeks of the season.

Levitre’s injury comes after defensive stalwarts Keanu Neal and Deion Jones went down in a Week 1 loss to Philadelphia. Neal (knee) is out for the year, while Jones (foot) will have to miss at least eight games, though the Falcons are hopeful that he’ll be able to return late in the season.

COWBOYS: Dallas re-signed veteran receiver Brice Butler, who had left Dallas in free agency last spring but was released by the Arizona Cardinals before the season.

Dallas released rookie safety Tyree Robinson on Tuesday to make room on its roster for Butler. RANKINGS: The Los Angeles Rams, who have looked dominant in the first two weeks of the regular season, have grabbed the top spot from the New England Patriots in the latest AP Pro32 poll Tuesday.

The Rams received nine of the 12 firstplace votes and 380 points in balloting by media members who regularly cover the NFL.
