Notre Dame’s Kelly says two quarterbacks will play against Wake Forest

-

SOUTH BEND, Ind. — After No. 8 Notre Dame went indoors to dodge raindrops for its final preparations for Saturday’s game at Wake Forest, coach Brian Kelly danced around the possibility of a new starting quarterback.

In his final meeting with the media before the game, Kelly would not say that Ian Book would start against the Demon Deacons or even if he had drawn even with senior Brandon Wimbush, last year’s primary starter and No. 1 through Notre Dame’s 3-0 start at home.

“They are both going to play,” Kelly said. “I’ve said that all year. We need them both to win. They are both ready.”

When questioned specifically whether Wimbush would be the starter Saturday against the 2-1 Demon Deacons, Kelly pretty much repeated himself.

“They are both going to play,” he said. “They are both prepared and ready to go, and we’re going to need both of them to win.”

Kelly indicated he had faith in Book, a 6-foot, 203-pound junior from El Dorado Hills, Calif.

MARYLAND: An attorney for Jordan McNair’s family sent a letter Thursday to the university’s board of regents urging the body not to release a report stemming from an investigation into the football player’s June death before the family has a chance to review it.

The 17-member board is expected to convene today and will see for the first time the report prepared by consulting firm Walters, Inc., an athletic training consulting firm that was hired to investigate the May 29 team workout in College Park, where the 19-year old McNair suffered exertional heatstroke. He died 15 days later in a hospital.

KENTUCKY: Randall Cobb’s name is strewn throughout the Kentucky football record books, and he doesn’t seem to mind one of the records he holds at UK will soon be surpassed.

“Records are made to be broken! Go get it 2-6! #BBN,” Cobb posted on Twitter on Tuesday in response to a Kentucky football post showing star running back Benny Snell (No. 26) with 35 TDs on UK’s all-time list, just two behind Cobb’s total of 37.

NEBRASKA: Nebraska will play Bethune-Cookman on Oct. 27 to make up for the game against Akron that was canceled because of inclement weather.

Bethune-Cookman is a FCS team that’s 1-2 after losing to Florida Atlantic last Saturday. FCS teams are allowed 11 regular-season games, but the NCAA granted the Wildcats a waiver that lets them play a 12th game to accommodate the Cornhuskers.
