Santa Fe’s Theatre Walk is getting an encore! After more than 600 people made Theatre Santa Fe’s inaugural walk in the Siler District last year, it is returning on Saturday with 20 local theater companies in 10 venues all within a two block zone. Local businesses are also getting in on the action, with Duel Brewing and Cacao The Art of Chocolate’s facilities serving as staging locations. Performances range from classics like Mark Twain’s “The Diaries of Adam and Eve” and Shakespeare’s “King Lear,” to student performances, improv comedy and live rehearsals. The full schedule is at theatresantafe.org/walk. Wristbands available for purchase on site for $5 will allow guests visit all locations. Each performance lasts 15 minutes, and performances occur every half hour. Saturday’s walk is from 1:30-5:30 p.m.
BEAD EXCHANGE:
In
conjunction with the Museum of International Folk Art’s ongoing beadwork exhibit and Museum Hill’s admission-free Community Day, MOIFA is hosting a Sunday bead exchange. The event is open to collectors or visitors who want to exchange or sell beads; the goods can range from ancient to modern. The beads must be in good condition and priced ahead of time. Participants will be in charge of their own sales and exchanges. The exchange takes place Sunday from 12-4 p.m. at Museum Hill on Camino Lejo. Other events going on for Community Day include a polymer clay bead-making session, also from 12-4 p.m., the Museum of Indian Arts and Culture’s Native Treasures sale starting at 10 a.m., and performances from a local reggae band and the Acoma Pueblo rain dance group from 1-4 p.m.
SEASON OPENER:
Santa Fe Pro Musica will play greats from both classic and contemporary composers in its season opener this weekend. The repertoire for the performance, titled “Esteemed Reputations,” includes Mozart’s renowned “Piano Concerto No. 20 in D Minor” and Joseph Haydn’s “Symphony No. 92 in G Major,” also known as the “Oxford Symphony.” Also on the bill is contemporary composer Chris Cerrone’s “High Windows,” an eerie and intense string instrument piece. The show features Anne-Marie McDermott, an award-winning pianist who regularly plays shows around the world and has frequented Santa Fe. Performances of “Esteemed Reputations” are 4 p.m. Saturday and 3 p.m. Sunday at the Lensic, 211 W. San Francisco. Tickets cost $12-$80.
