Bernalillo County Sheriff’s detectives are investigating after a woman was shot and killed in the parking lot of a South Valley convenience store Tuesday night.

Deputy Felicia Maggard, a BCSO spokeswoman, said around 10:30 p.m. deputies were called to the Circle K at Coors and Gun Club SW and found a woman had been shot.

“Deputies immediately rendered aid to an adult female with a gunshot wound,” but she died at the scene, Maggard wrote in an email.

Homicide detectives are now investigating. She did not say if they have any suspects.

“No further details are available for release at this time and investigation is ongoing,” Maggard wrote.

By early Wednesday morning all traces of the previous night’s events had disappeared from the area. Of the two men loitering in front of the store, one said he had heard some of the commotion the night before.

Ruben Vigil said he was sleeping across the street from the 24-hour store and gas station Tuesday night when he heard four or five gunshots. He said he went to the store to get some water and noticed they were on lockdown and deputies were all over the parking lot.

The homicide investigation is the seventh in the county so far this year, surpassing last year when there were six homicides, according to BCSO statistics submitted to the FBI.
