Alexandria Boylan self-distributes NM-filmed thriller ‘At Your Own Risk’

Alexandria Boylan never backs down from a challenge.

The filmmaker set out last year with a four-person crew to shoot a movie in Alamogordo.

Not to mention she had a $5,000 budget.

The result is the thriller “At Your Own Risk.”

The film will be available for pre-order on iTunes today and released on Oct. 9.

Boylan has had success with other films, yet with this one, she decided to self-distribute.

“This is the first time that we’re selfdistributing, and we just kind of feel like self distribution is the way of the future in film,” she says. “We don’t need a distribution company. You own 70 percent, and iTunes gets 30 percent. We could at least earn some money.”

The film follows two career-driven women who are hired to test out a unique treasure hunt deep in the New Mexico desert.

Their exciting adventure takes a drastic turn as friendship is tested and survival is pushed to the limit, and before long they realize that not everything is as it seems.

Boylan says the film is a trailblazer, as it’s a femaledriven story starring Boylan and Helenna Santos.

It is directed by John K.D. Graham.

“Not only is this a female-led story, but it’s a female-helmed project,” Boylan says. “Our production team on this movie is 50/50 with myself and Helenna producing and starring in the film. The majority of this movie was shot with only our four-person team deep in the New Mexico desert. It’s a fun ride full of twists and turns that will definitely keep you on your toes.”

Boylan and crew shot for seven days in Alamogordo.

The entire shoot was on location.

“It’s crazy to see what we’ve accomplished,” she says. “This is true independent filmmaking. We’re presenting an awesome product that we’re all so proud of.”

The script was written by Boylan’s brother, Andrew.

“We had come up with a concept and were shooting our other film, ‘Wish for Christmas,’ ” she says. “We were super-busy and told Andrew about the idea. He wrote the script, and then we took it and began the plan for the self-distribution market. We went into this as a co-op with other creative outlets.”

Boylan says being able to shoot the film in New Mexico added to the film.

“Just being able to use the elements of New Mexico,” she says. “We had drones that were able to capture New Mexico. I just love New Mexico, and I was excited to utilize it and have the story take place outside.”
