HATS OFF TO Rio Grande Football Coach Minidis for his great example of honor and integrity. Even though his team had just ended a 39 game losing streak a few weeks before, he self-reported to the NMAA that one of his players was academically ineligible during that game. Thus, Rio Grande forfeited that game and the losing streak continues. However, those young men on the team will learn a life-long lesson from Coach Minidis’ honesty; much more than they would have with a tainted victory. Go Ravens! — Leroy Chavez
WELL, I MISSED most of the Lobos impressive 50-14 win over UNLV due to attending my daughter’s soccer game, then thought my eyes were playing tricks on me when I finally made it home, turned on my TV, and saw the score. The jury is still out as to whether we are contenders or pretenders, but hang on tight Lobo Nation, it’s going to be a wild ride as we find out! — George Scott
ZACH GENTRY of Michigan got some national TV mention for the state of New Mexico this past Saturday. It’s still quite a mystery, however, as to why one of the best quarterbacks in the history of New Mexico high school football would decide to become a tight end instead of taking his QB talent elsewhere. — Joseph
