A man is recovering after being shot multiple times outside the Frontier restaurant Tuesday night, according to police.

Albuquerque police spokesman Simon Drobik said detectives are still waiting to speak to the victim about what happened and nobody is in custody.

He said the security guard at Frontier, near Cornell and Central SE, called police around 11 p.m. after hearing gunshots outside.

Drobik said arriving officers found a man shot multiple times on the sidewalk, and he was taken to the hospital.

Aside from interviewing the victim, he said police will check nearby security cameras. They have a possible suspect vehicle but are not releasing a description yet.

A manager at Frontier, Shannon Rainosek, called the shooting an “isolated incident.”

“We haven’t had issues like this before,” she said. “We obviously are concerned for everyone’s safety.”

Rainosek said restaurant staff do not believe the person shot was a customer.

The restaurant used to be open 24 hours a day until scaling back the hours to a 1 a.m. closing time several years ago.

Rainosek said the changes had to do with the “after bar” crowd causing problems and fights, leading to security costs and insurance concerns.

“At a point, our insurance company said they would not cover us anymore because of the incidents with people who had been drinking,” she said.

Rainosek said, to her knowledge, this is the first shooting that has happened around the restaurant.

“I’m not aware of it ever happening,” she said.

The intersection of Cornell and Central was shut down past midnight Tuesday, and crime scene tape stretched across the street, blocking the Frontier’s entrance.

A few people stood on the opposite corner of the street, talking about what might have happened.

A woman walked up to the crime scene tape, upset that the restaurant was closed, and she would not be able to go inside for a cup of coffee and midnight snack.
