Matthew Ramsey has a weeklong break during tour, and he’s taking some time to rest.

“Then we have another week on,” he says with a laugh. “It’s been a fun journey so far. We’ve been writing a bunch, and it’s time to get going on the next album.”

Ramsey is the vocalist for the country band Old Dominion. The other members of the band, formed in 2007 in Nashville, Tenn., are Trevor Rosen, Whit Sellers, Geoff Sprung and Brad Tursi.

The band has released two full-length albums and two EPs.

The band’s most recent album is 2017’s “Happy Endings,” which features the singles “No Such Thing as a Broken Heart, “Written in the Sand” and “Hotel Key.”

For this tour, the men in Old Dominion have taken writers with them on the road.

“That’s our goal,” Ramsey says. “We are such good friends and consider each other family; we want our road crew to feel the same way, too. We try to put together the best environment we can.”

With a catalog being built, Ramsey says, the band is getting more at ease when putting together a set list.

“We can play from two albums and can really get deep with the album cuts,” he says. “People have their favorites and bring signs. It’s a fun experience to have our catalog continue to grow. It makes it easier, and the intimidation factor of the show begins to recede.”

For the writing process for the next album, Ramsey says the band hasn’t really planned anything.

“It’s been nice that we haven’t been overthinking anything,” he says. “We’re sort of making the music that we love. It’s about what we need to write about rather than what fans want. We hope that with our honesty, we’ll continue to be able to connect to the audience. We love what we do, and we’re constantly playing a balancing act. For me, I go from being on the road and performing nightly to being a dad and husband when I’m home. I’m blessed in all ways.”
