Democrats are not acting rationally

-

I AM seriously rethinking how I go about choosing my vote. In the past I like to at least think I’ve chosen based on a candidates’ platform and how effective they have been at achieving their promises. I won’t lie to you; I tend to lean Republican. I haven’t always chosen their candidates, though. For instance, I did choose Bill Clinton, and, for his second term, Obama. In the last presidential election, I couldn’t bring myself to vote for either party’s candidate. How sad.

The reaction by the members and even the leadership of the Democrats around (Judge Brett) Kavanaugh’s elevation, though, has given me pause. What the Republican Party did to (Merrick) Garland was a disgrace. Now what the Democrats have done is also. It’s not that, though, that causes me to feel the way I’m feeling now — dirty politics is just dirty. It was what happened afterward. Have you all gone insane? Interrupting the vote in the Senate? Clawing at the doors and wailing to the stars during the swearing in? Proposing impeachment at the first opportunity?

More, Democratic leaders are advocating hounding people in their private life. Giving the folks who can’t agree with them any peace until they shut up, resign from even trying or go crazy in turn, it seems. In essence, saying the ends justify the means?

In short, you’re scaring me. You are not acting rationally. Really? Do I have to start making my choice based on who I think seems more sane in the situation? Because if I do, then rest assured that I’ll be pulling the red lever for the first time in my life. The white supremacists aren’t the Republican Party, and I don’t think the alt-left is the Democratic Party, either. The Democratic leadership is beginning to echo their mindset around how things ought to be done and, for me, scurrilous behavior and threat of violent resistance have no place here.

So figure it out, please. I’d love to make a choice based on who I believe to be the best candidate. If I’m going to have to risk you burning down my house simply because I don’t agree with you, though, I’m going to need a lot of friends, and I’ll pick the ones who seem, still, to have a little bit of sanity and restraint.
