Jim Villanucci is making a comeback into Albuquerque talk radio Monday when he takes over the drive-time program on KQTM-FM 101.7 “The Team.”

Station president Joe O’Neill wrote in a statement that the show billed as “Sports, Talk and More” will air Mondays-Fridays, 4-7 p.m., occupying essentially the time slot vacated recently when Bob Brown retired after 10 years of hosting “The Locker Room.”

“The range of this show is as unlimited as Jim’s talent,” said O’Neill.

Villanucci hosted an afternoon show on KKOBAM 770 for nearly 14 years ending in late February 2013, when Cumulus Media elected not to renew his contract.

Villanucci’s show will compete on the all-sports scene with “The Sports Bar” that airs 3-7 p.m. on 610 AM and 94.5 FM. Tour player of the year, gave himself the perfect opportunity to become the No. 1 player in the world when he shot a 7-under par 65 to move to within one shot of the lead in the CJ Cup on Friday.

At the Nine Bridges course, the three-time major champion made an eagle on his closing hole to finish on 8-under par 136 after two rounds, just one stroke behind Scott Piercy, who was bogey-free in matching Koepka’s 65.

Koepka will move to the top of the world rankings when they are announced Monday if he wins the tournament or finishes second, as long as former No. 1 Justin Thomas, the defending champion here, does not win.

LPGA: In Shanghai, Sei Young Kim led the LPGA Shanghai by one stroke at the halfway point after shooting a 5-under-par 67 in the second round Friday. Danielle Kang and Ariya Jutanugarn are a shot back. CHAMPIONS TOUR: In Richmond, Va., Scott Dunlap and Fran Quinn shot 5-under 67 on Friday to share the first-round lead in the playoff-opening Dominion Energy Charity Classic. The top 72 players qualified for the Charles Schwab Cup Playoffs opener.
