‘Chilling Adventures of Sabrina’ gets a spine-tingling adaptation

Adventures of Sabrina,” premiering Friday, Oct. 26. The series is based on the comics of the same name by Roberto Aquirre-Sacasa that began in 2014 by Archie Horror, an imprint of Archie Comics, and which were a darker take on the characters and setting of Sabrina the Teenage Witch. The series stars “Mad Men’s” Kiernan Shipka as Sabrina Spellman, whose approaching 16th birthday introduces her to the world of magic and the supernatural. Along with her friends and family, Sabrina battles dark forces that threaten to destroy the world as they know it. But it’s not just demons and devils Sabrina must look out for — even her own kind are working against her. Venture into the darkness on Friday, Oct. 26, with the premiere of “Chilling Adventures of Sabrina,” on Netflix. premiere of the psychological thriller “You Were Never Really Here,” on Friday, Oct. 26, on Amazon Prime. Based on the 2012 book of the same name by Jonathan Ames, the film stars Joaquin Phoenix (“Her,” 2013) as Joe, a contract killer who specializes in rescuing trafficked girls. Joe’s character is a sad one indeed, having been abused by his father, experienced inexplicable horrors while in the military and during his involvement with the FBI, and left to care for his elderly mother, and he’s plagued by thoughts of suicide. When Joe is recruited to rescue a New York State Senator’s daughter, Nina (Ekaterina Samsonov, “The Ticket,” 2016), he finds himself on a downward spiral full of suffering, corruption and death. However, even in the darkest of places, one can find light, and Joe must decide whether his past will consume him or aid him in his rescue mission.
