BRONCOS QB IN TROUBLE
Kelly charged with suspicion of criminal trespass
Denver backup Chad Kelly is arrested on suspicion of criminal trespass
DENVER — Denver Broncos backup quarterback Chad Kelly was arrested Tuesday on suspicion of criminal trespass after a couple reported he came into their suburban house uninvited and sat down on their couch “mumbling incoherently,” according to court records.
General manager John Elway said the team was “very, very disappointed in Chad and the situation he put himself into” and suggested the Broncos were pondering Kelly’s future with the club.
Kelly attended a Halloween costume party hosted by Von Miller on Monday night that has long been a tradition for Broncos players and their significant others. The Broncos were trying to figure out what happened after Kelly left the party.
“We are in the process of getting all the facts and talking to Chad, and then we’ll figure out exactly which direction we’re going to go,” Elway said on his weekly radio show on Orange & Blue 760. “When the team has a gettogether, (it) is always a good thing. You like when they get together and the camaraderie that goes along with being a team. But when you have one person that kind of puts a dent in the whole process, it’s very disappointing.
“We’re going to look into this, and look into it very seriously, because the charges are very, very serious and we understand that,” Elway said. “We will look into this and then make decisions as we go.”
CARR: QB Derek Carr is under siege, and not just when he drops back to pass.
With the Raiders (1-5) having already traded away former cornerstone players Khalil Mack and Amari Cooper, there is speculation that the Raiders’ franchise quarterback could be next.
Add to that a column in the subscription site “The Athletic” describing “a fractured relationship with his teammates.”
Carr, who did not speak to reporters Monday after Cooper was traded, gave his answer Tuesday morning on Twitter:
“I’m a Raider. It’s not a popular thing to be a Raider right now, but I am and I love it. I love the struggle of trying to fight back for our city when not a lot of people believe in us. People can try all they want to tear us apart, but it’s not happening to the real ones.”
MORE RAIDERS: Oakland signed kicker Daniel Carlson and waived Matt McCrane.
Carlson was a fifth-round pick by Minnesota this season but was released after two games with the Vikings. He missed three field goal tries in a tie at Green Bay on Sept. 16, including tries from 35 and 49 yards in OT.
McCrane kicked the game-winning field goal in overtime for Oakland on Sept. 30 against Cleveland, but has missed four kicks in three games and has struggled to generate touchbacks on kickoffs.
TRADE: The New York Giants have sent “the other Eli” to the New Orleans Saints. Not Eli Manning. Eli Apple. The Giants on Tuesday traded the cornerback who was the 10th pick overall in the 2016 draft to the Saints for a fourth-round pick in 2019 and a seventh-rounder in 2020.
Like all trades, it will be not official until Apple passes a physical.
The move marks the second time in a week the Giants (1-6) have parted ways with a recent first-round draft pick. Last week, they waived tackle Ereck Flowers, their 2015 top pick. He was signed by Jacksonville.
VIKINGS: Minnesota defensive end Everson Griffen is returning to the team after being out for the past month for a mental health evaluation.
The Vikings say Griffen will resume team activities today. They didn’t say when he would return to game action.
Griffen, a three-time Pro Bowler, left the team in late September after a series of events that included a welfare check at a hospital. A police report described erratic behavior that included a threat of violence at a downtown Minneapolis hotel and a text message to his wife referencing suicide.
JETS: New York has some help for its banged-up receiving group.
They signed free-agent WR Rishard Matthews, who was released by Tennessee last month after requesting the move because he felt he was being underused.
The Jets were short-handed at receiver because Quincy Enunwa, who has a teamleading 22 catches, is out a few weeks with a sprained ankle. Terrelle Pryor was also released last Saturday with an injury settlement because of a groin tear.
RANKINGS: The LA Rams (7-0) remain the league’s only unbeaten team and are the unanimous top team in the AP Pro32 poll for the fifth consecutive week. Kansas City and New England are tied for second.
