Info on 3 finalists, 7 semifinalists revealed
The University of New Mexico hired Loretta Martinez in September to be its chief legal counsel.
Martinez, who had been general counsel and vice chancellor for legal affairs at the City University of New York, started Oct. 1.
She was among three finalists chosen by a search committee. The other two were Eric Bentley, at the time working in the University of Houston system, and James Pottorff Jr., former general counsel and vice chancellor for legal affairs at the University of Kansas.
Those three were among the 10 candidates whose résumés UNM released to the Journal in response to a public records request.
The other seven represented the candidates who made the semifinalist round.
A spokeswoman said UNM contacted each to inform them it was releasing their information to the Journal, and none objected.
Those semifinalists and their position at the time of application were:
■ Gary Douglas “Doug” Welch, chief compliance officer at Baylor University.
■ Kathleen Wasch, managing attorney at the Georgia Institute of Technology.
■ Craig Hoefer, senior associate university counsel at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.
■ Ned Fuller, acting secretary at the New Mexico General Services Department.
■ Roberto Ortega, assistant U.S. attorney in the U.S. Attorney’s Office in Albuquerque.
■ Jean Marie Bannon, employment attorney with German-Burnette & Associates in Albuquerque and a former senior associate university counsel at UNM.
■ Michael James Donley, chief legal officer at the University of Texas at Tyler.
