“Under” bettors are beating their chests

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — Jake Fromm threw three touchdown passes, ending speculation about freshman Justin Fields supplanting him in the starting lineup, and No. 7 Georgia beat ninth-ranked Florida 36-17 on Saturday.

The Bulldogs took advantage of Florida’s three turnovers and an injury to cornerback C.J. Henderson to win the “World’s Largest Outdoor Cocktail Party” for the second straight year.

No. 2 CLEMSON 59, FLORIDA STATE 10: In Tallahassee, Fla., Trevor Lawrence threw four touchdown passes, and the Tigers (8-0, 5-0 ACC) handed the Seminoles their worst home loss in program history.

No. 8 OKLAHOMA 51, KANSAS STATE 14: In Norman, Okla., Kyler Murray passed for 352 yards and three touchdowns and ran for another score as the Sooners (7-1, 4-1 Big 12) rolled up a season-high 702 total yards and only punted once. That was in the fourth quarter after Murray was done for the day.

NORTHWESTERN 31, NO. 20 WISCONSIN 17: In Evanston, Ill., Clayton Thorson ran for two touchdowns and threw a scoring pass to help Northwestern (5-3, 5-1 Big Ten) beat Wisconsin (5-3, 3-2).

The first-place Wildcats solidified themselves as contenders for the Big Ten West championship while gaining some revenge for a loss at Camp Randall Stadium early last season.

HOUSTON 57, No. 21 SOUTH FLORIDA 36: In Houston, D’Eriq King had a hand in a career-high seven touchdowns, throwing for 419 yards and five scores and running for 134 yards and two more touchdowns as the Cougars (7-1, 4-0 totaled a season-high 684 yards offensively in beating the previously unbeaten Bulls (7-1, 3-1).

CALIFORNIA 12, NO. 15 WASHINGTON 10: In Berkeley, Calif., linebacker Evan Weaver scored on a 36-yard interception return in the third quarter after Washington made a change at quarterback, and California overcome a sluggish day offensively.

MISSISSIPPI STATE 28, NO. 16 TEXAS A&M 13: In Starkville, Miss., Nick Fitzgerald threw for 241 yards and two touchdowns and ran for two more scores to lead Mississippi State over Texas A&M.

Mississippi State (5-3, 2-3 Southeastern Conference) won thanks to an unexpected boost from its passing game, which was among the least productive in the SEC coming into the night. One week after throwing four interceptions in a miserable loss to LSU, Fitzgerald completed 14 of 22 passes.

CHADRON STATE 43, NM HIGHLANDS 38: In Chadron, Neb., two second-half turnovers led to two Chadron State touchdowns and the Cowboys (3-6, 3-5 RMAC) couldn’t t muster one last rally vs. the Eagles (6-2, 6-2). Danny Cameron was 26-for-39 passing for 391 yards and five touchdowns with an interception.
