ALL PASS, NO FAIL

Angel Fire gives teachers a big break for ski season

- JOURNAL STAFF REPORT

Ski areas often offer deals; Specials for kids, seniors and military members are among the most common. But this year, Angel Fire Resort is offering the Teacher Pass — a season-long pass for — wait for it — $99.

“We’ve built a whole mountain around being family-friendly,” said Krysty Ronchetti, Angel Fire’s public relations coordinator. “Who spends more time with our families than our teachers?”

The Teacher Pass is available to any K-12 teacher nationwide.

Ronchetti said the idea for the pass was to thank educators for the work they do with students and families, by offering an affordable ski experience.

“We can’t thank teachers enough for the incredible work they do educating children. Their lives are dedicated to work that is often overlooked. We wanted a way to thank them for all they’re doing for our kids by offering them an value driven opportunity to ski or snowboard at our mountain,” said Robin May, Angel Fire’s ski and snowboard school director. The pass has no blackout dates. “We know that the time teachers can most likely travel to ski will be on holidays, so it was decided that those days — typical blackout days for many deals — would be included,” Ronchetti said.

The price is $99 today through Dec. 13, the day before opening day. The Teacher Pass will increase to $199 on opening day. Angel Fire Resort’s winter season is Dec. 13 to March 24. Additionally, 25 percent lodging discounts on hotel rooms, condos and private homes will be offered on select dates for Teacher Pass holders.

“At $99, it pays for itself in only two visits,” Rohchetti said.

“We pride ourselves on being one of the most family-friendly resorts in the Rockies. Along with focusing on the kids who come to ski our mountains, we also want to encourage the passion for the sport of skiing and snowboarding to those who are doing so much for these students,” said Ruth Worden, Angel Fire’s marketing manager.

Although the Teacher Pass can be purchased online now, teachers will need to present their ID and a current pay stub from a school anywhere in the country to validate the pass the first day they use it. Additionally, the Teacher Pass may be purchased at the ticket window once the ski season has started. For more information, go to angelfireresort.com and click on “Season Passes.”
