VOLUNTEERS

NEW MEXICO PHILHARMON­IC is seeking volunteers. You have opportunit­ies to volunteer at concerts, fundraisin­g events, help with office work or other. THE NATIONAL MUSEUM OF NUCLEAR SCIENCE & HISTORY is seeking volunteers. Learn more about available opportunit­ies at the upcoming informatio­n session on Dec. 15, 2018, 1:30-4 p.m. Location details provided with RSVP. The days and hours of operation are Tuesday-Sunday, 11 a.m.-3:30 p.m. The ideal volunteer can commit to one 4.5hour shift to work the front desk, greet visitors, schedule group visits and answer questions. The museum also needs a staff of volunteers on an “as needed basis” to be docents, educators in our outreach program, librarians, archivists and assistants for special functions and fundraisin­g projects. SILVER HORIZONS, provides free groceries to over 3,500 seniors, and to about 1,200 grandchild­ren many of these seniors are raising. A small, local nonprofit making a big, positive difference in the lives of so many of our elderly. But we can’t help these struggling seniors (people just like our parents and grandparen­ts, and the elderly neighbor living alone) without volunteers. Our thrift store at San Mateo just north of Candelaria is staffed by volunteers, and raises funds to support our free groceries for seniors program. OASIS READING MENTORS, Oasis tutoring program, is recruiting 100 reading mentors. The commitment is to volunteer one hour, one day a week for one or two school years. We read with a K-4 public school student. Contact Vicki at 884-4529 for training and background check informatio­n.

ADELANTE’S VALENCIA COUNTY

DAY PROGRAMS: need volunteers to help with outings. Volunteer in Belen or Los Lunas, working with adults with disabiliti­es. Looking for individual­s who are 18 and older, who are cheerful and kindhearte­d, who can accept direction from staff, and who are physically able to be outdoors in all seasons helping to propel people in wheelchair­s in various settings for day trips.
