REMEMBER THE good old days when the Lobos never lost a men’s basketball game at home. Does Coach Weir know that? Or is this the “norm” now? — JG
SELF-PROCLAIMED Lobo Super Fan Rudy C left the basketball game with 3½ minutes remaining, almost missing a great comeback. Of course, everyone unfortunate enough to sit near him was happy he left and finally stopped whining. — The Sportsdvl
ROCKY RAN A 3-3-5, why? Lots more athletes in the 180-220lb range than defensive linemen, and UNM cannot compete in recruiting for the excellent down linemen . ... The downside? To get good at it, it takes time to teach and implement. That’s why you don’t see Rocky playing a lot of younger players . ... Rocky’s teams made as many big plays as they gave up, it was a gambling defense . ... I have been saying run Rocky’s D for 5 years. Ready now Davie? — Von in Santa Fe
IN SPORTS, injuries are a fact of life, but for Lobo football, which has very little margin for error, they have been particularly costly. They have not been able to recover from injuries to critical personnel, and a needless, but deserved suspension of another key lineman . ... If there has been an upside to all this, opportunities have been given to others to develop and hopefully contribute next year. We have to find our way forward, adjustments need to be made, but firing Davie is not the answer. — Bob, UNM Area
“IT’S TIME:” (Davie) has been given his opportunity to change our football program. For a while it seemed like he was in the right direction, but he lost his way somehow. It’s time to cut the bait! Me and my friends are so tired of leaving by halftime, at the most we stayed until the middle of the third quarter, but hardly ever stayed for a complete game. Sad!
SELLING NEW MEXICO on new head coaches, it’s what we do best. I can’t wait until the next UNM football coach’s firing so we can get on with the business of enjoying the new billing generated by the new guy whose major accomplishment is winning elsewhere. — Tony, TorC
