Flyers continue with their purge
PHILADELPHIA — The Philadelphia Flyers have continued their organizational purge, firing their assistant general manager and an assistant coach.
The Flyers fired Chris Pryor and Gord Murphy on Wednesday, a day after the Flyers blew a two-goal lead in the third period and lost 4-3 to Ottawa. The dismissals come two days after the Flyers fired general manager Ron Hextall following 4½ seasons on the job.
The Flyers are 10-12-2 and in last place in the Eastern Conference.
MAPLE LEAFS 5, SHARKS 3: In Toronto, Auston Matthews had two goals and an assist in his return from a left shoulder injury that sidelined him a month as Toronto beat San Jose for its third straight victory.
RED WINGS 4, BLUES 3: In Detroit, Tyler Bertuzzi broke a tie with 6:53 to go with his second goal of the game and Detroit held on to beat St. Louis after blowing a 3-0 lead.
DUCKS 3, PANTHERS 2: In Sunrise, Fla., Nick Ritchie broke a tie with 1:28 left with his second goal of the game and John Gibson made 42 saves as Anaheim beat Florida. STARS 4, FLAMES 3 (OT): In Calgary, Alberta, the Stars’ Tyler Seguin scored 24 seconds into overtime to lift Dallas over Calgary.
AVALANCHE 6, PENGUINS 3: In Denver, Gabe Landeskog broke a tie midway in the third period as Colorado overcame Sidney Crosby’s natural hat trick to beat the Pittsburgh for its sixth straight victory.
