COACH DAVIE sold UNM on the Triple Option citing the Military Service Academies as examples. However, the successful Military Schools use Prep Schools, etc., to keep up a steady stream of Division 1 interior Lineman. Davie’s present UNM squad of 85-100 has only one or two Division 1 interior lineman. A.D. Nuñez comes (from Louisiana), the promised land of interior linemen. — SWB

LARRY THE VOL: you may have heard that the UT (offensive coordinator’s) position has opened up. A Knoxville TV station took a poll — 70 percent said don’t hire Tee, so I guess he’s available! — GregBob

WHEN DID Sports Speak Up! become a Lobos only forum for the only five people who care about them? — The Edster

#1. NO FOOTBALL team equals no conference affiliation in most circumstances. That isn’t a good thing re: basketball and the Pit. #2. The aftermath of Mr Krebs and its fallout were a given. Mr. Davie has 3 more years. Let it be. #3. After only a few games, we are down to “Mr Bragg, Please Save Us?” Mr. Weir is not an experienced, talk out of both sides of his mouth kind of guy. Leave him alone. The man can recruit. He will get better as well. #4. Support the young men and women, always. They certainly deserve it. — Michael Miller, Albuq.

UNM SUCCEEDED in getting rid of Snake for a couple seasons but he’s back. Believe it or not, several of the coaches from MWC visiting teams stated that they missed his taunting. He’s welcomed by Paul Weir. In fact, as I understand it, Snake has an open invitation to UNM’s practices. Keep in mind that this is the Pit. As San Diego State’s long-time play-by-play announcer, Ted Leitner once stated over the west coast radio airwaves: ‘I’m headed to the Pit in Albuquerque … angry people there … and they’re not young, either.’ — JJ

THE GREATEST DAY in College Football is a new book out. It’s about the Saturday, 20 years ago, when UCLA, Kansas State, and Tennessee went into the final weekend of the 1998 college football season undefeated. Spoiler Alert: Former VOL QB, Brandon Stewart, leads then Big 12 Texas A & M over Kansas State. — Larry the VOL
