Aggies, Washington State have 1st meeting tonight

LAS CRUCES — The first-ever men’s basketball game between Washington State and New Mexico State takes place tonight at the Pam Am Center.

The Cougars of the Pac-12 are 4-1 and recently outscored Cal State Northridge 103-94 for the their third straight win. Robert Franks is one of five Cougars scoring in double figures. The 6-foot-9 forward averages 26.8 points and 8.8 rebounds while shooting 57 percent from the floor.

The 5-1 Aggies, meanwhile, managed to grind out a 62-58 win over host and rival UTEP on Wednesday in El Paso. Ivan Aurrecoech­ea led the Aggies with 15 points.

Men

RADFORD 62, No. 17 TEXAS 59: In Austin, Texas, Carlik Jones made a spinning layup and a free throw with 24.5 seconds left, sending Radford to an upset of Texas on Friday night.

Devin Hutchison made one of two free throws with 11 seconds left before Texas’ Jase Febres missed a 3-pointer to tie and Radford rebounded to end the game. No. 9 MICHIGAN STATE 78, RUTGERS 69: In Piscataway, N.J., Cassius Winston scored 22 points and Nick Ward had 20 points to lead the Spartans (5-2) over Rutgers (5-2) in

the Big Ten opener for both schools. No. 21 BUFFALO 96, MILWAUKEE 77: In Belfast, Northern Ireland, Jeremy Harris scored 21 points and the Bulls improved to 6-0 for the first time since the 193031 season. No. 22 WISCONSIN 72, No. 14 IOWA 66: In Iowa City, Iowa, D’Mitrik Trice scored 20 points, including a crucial 3 with 20 seconds left in the Big Ten opener for both teams. No. 25 MISSISSIPP­I STATE 65,

DAYTON 58: In Dayton, Ohio, Nick Weatherspo­on hit a pair of 3-pointers in the closing minutes, and Mississipp­i State trailed most of the game before rallying to a victory.
