Donate Used Items: Big Brothers Big Sisters derives a large percentage of its operating budget from the sale of donated used clothing and small household items to Savers Thrift Stores. Go to the website, click on “Donate” and then on “Donate Used Items” to find the location of Savers Stores, attended donation centers or Big Brothers Big Sisters Green Bins where items may be left.

Volunteer: Help with special events, such as the annual Bowl for Kids Sake fundraiser, are needed, but the biggest need is for men and women, usually 18 and older, to serve as mentors to boys and girls 6-18. Go to bbbs-cnm.org, click on “Volunteer” and then on “Enrollment Process” to find out how to get involved.

Toy Closet Donations: Go to ccfnm.org and click on “How You Can Help” and then on “Toy Closet Donations” to find guidelines for purchasing toys for young cancer patients.

Volunteer: Opportunit­ies for volunteers include tutoring for children who miss a lot of time in school because of long-term cancer treatments and also assisting in fundraisin­g efforts. Go to ccfnm. org, click on “How You Can Help” and then on “Volunteer.”

Volunteer: Go to childrensg­rief.org and click on “Volunteer” for options. Volunteers must be at least 21. No previous experience is required but persons wishing to serve as bereavemen­t facilitato­rs, those who lead support groups, are required to take a two-day 16-hour course. The next training session is Jan. 12 and 13. Registrati­on fee for the course is $45.
