Robert T. Mize

-

Robert T. Mize, 74, a longtime Albuquerque resident, died October 25th after a long illness. Born in Chanute, Kansas to Jack and Genevieve Mize, he moved to Houston and came to Albuquerque at age seven because New Mexico’s teacher pay was the third highest in the nation. He attended Inez Elementary, Monroe Jr. High, and Sandia High Schools. A graduate of the University of Idaho, he joined the Navy and rose to the rank of Commander. A real estate appraiser in Albuquerque for 30 years, Bob cowrote the 1986 New Mexico County Assessor’s Commercial Manual. He retired and bought Hidden Secrets Book Covers which still creates beautiful cloth covers. Besides his family, Bob had three focuses: He was an active member of the Quiet Birdmen “QB”, a pilot’s organization that gave him much pleasure. He was a proud Assistant Scout Master for Boy Scout Troop 285. This fall, “The Bob Mize Spirit of ASEGA Award” was created to honor his work in the Albuquerque Sales and Economic Growth Association. He loved to entertain. He watched culinary programs and recreated their dishes, often surpassing any restaurant food he encountered. He is survived by his wife, Mary Candace Mize; son, David Steven Mize; brother and sister-inlaw, Dane Jr., and Judy Smith of Washington, D.C.; nieces Nita Harwig-Smith of Ashville, NC, Jennifer Nazaire of Elliott City, MD; nephew, Dane Smith III of Fairfax, VA; and stepmother-in-law, LaRue Mize of Ruidoso. A Celebration of Bob’s life will be held on Sunday, December 2, at 2:30 pm, at the Vietnam Veterans Memorial on Louisiana near Gibson. Cremation is in the care of Neptune Society.
