Aggies stop Washington State, 69-63

No. 5 Nevada, San Diego State earn MWC victories

LAS CRUCES — C.J. Bobbitt had 15 points, including three 3-pointers, and Terrell Brown scored 14 to help New Mexico State beat Washington State 69-63 on Saturday night.

Bobbitt made 5 of 6 from the field and grabbed seven rebounds and AJ Harris added 12 points for New Mexico State (6-1). The Aggies, who have won four in a row, beat a Power Five team at home for the first time since a 75-71 win over Colorado on Nov. 27, 2002.

Bobbitt hit a 3-pointer to open the scoring and Brown’s layup gave New Mexico State a 13-2 lead with 13 minutes left in the first half before going into the break with a 33-25 advantage. CJ Elleby’s short jumper pulled Washington State within 57-56 with three minutes to go but Shunn Buchanan answered with a 3 — his only points of the game — to spark a 10-2 run that made it 67-58 with 66 seconds to play and the Aggies held on from there.

Elleby had 18 points and 10 rebounds and Robert Franks scored 17 with 13 boards for the Cougars (4-2).

61: In Los Angeles, Jordan Caroline scored 22 points and Nevada took control with a dominant second half to beat Southern California (5-3) and equal its 8-0 start from last season.

Tre’Shawn Thurman added 14 points and nine rebounds and Caleb Martin had 12 points for the Wolfpack, who outscored USC 39-26 over the final 20 minutes. No. 7 MICHIGAN 76, No. 19 PURDUE 57: In Ann Arbor, Mich., Jordan Poole scored 21 points as part of a balanced offense and Michigan (8-0) was stingy on defense as it routed the Boilermake­rs (5-3). No. 10 KENTUCKY 78, UNC GREENSBORO 61: In Lexington, Ky., Reid Travis scored 22 points, Keldon Johnson added six of his 13 points during a 14-2 second half run and Kentucky (7-1) topped UNGC (7-2).

FRESNO STATE 76, CAL POLY 67: In Fresno, Calif., Deshon Taylor hit four 3-pointers, went 12-for-14 at the line and scored 32 points as Fresno (5-2) defeated Cal Poly (2-5). COLORADO 86, COLORADO STATE 80: In Boulder, Colo., the Buffaloes (5-1) hit 12 consecutiv­e shots during a decisive run in the second half and beat the Rams (4-4). Kris Martin led CSU with 21 points. SAN DIEGO STATE 76, ILLINOIS STATE 65: In Normal, Ill., Devin Watson pumped in 23 points and San Diego State (5-2) knocked off Illinois State (5-2) in the Mountain West/Missouri Valley Conference Challenge. NORTHERN COLORADO 85, WYOMING 80:

In Laramie, Wyo., freshman Bodie Hume scored 23 points and Northern Colorado (5-1) held on to edge Wyoming (2-6). Justin James led the Cowboys (2-6) with 25 points.

CINCINNATI 65, UNLV 61: In Las Vegas, Nev., Keith Williams scored 15 points and grabbed eight rebounds and Cane Broome scored 14 with four assists to help Cincinnati (7-1) post a wireto-wire victory over UNLV (4-3). Sophomore Amauri Hardy scored a career-high 22 points for the Runnin’ Rebels (4-3). GRAND CANYON 69, BOISE STATE 67: In Phoenix, Carlos Johnson scored 14 points and the Lopes (5-3) scored on their final six possession­s to edge the Broncos (2-5). R.J. Williams scored 23 points for Boise State.

ENMU 86, CAMERON 72: In Portales, Nick Brown scored 19 points, Maurice Coleman added 17 and the Greyhounds (3-4) defeated Cameron (2-6).

N.M. HIGHLANDS 89, CSU PUEBLO 84: In Las Vegas, N.M., Raquan Mitchell had 22 points, Gerad Davis scored 17 and the Cowboys (5-1) held off the Thunderwol­ves (2-5).

Women

No. 9 OREGON STATE 100, LA SALLE 46: In Corvallis, Ore., Kat Tudor had a season-high 24 points and nine rebounds and the Beavers (6-1) easily dispatched La Salle (0-7).

ENMU 85, CAMERON 65: In Portales, Treyanna Clay scored 16 points to lead four Greyhounds in double figures as ENMU (6-1) rolled past Cameron (2-6). CSU PUEBLO 76, NM HIGHLANDS 48: In Las Vegas, four players scored in double figures for the victorious Thunderwol­ves (3-4). Jordyn Lewis scored 17 to pace the Cowgirls (2-6).
