WITH THE TALENT and height Mr. Weir has it is hard to fathom that humiliating loss at NMSU. It is very obvious to this alum that this team can’t play the way Weir would like. Get out of the full court press every possession, play some zone and get the ball into the low post for goodness sakes. How about a pick and roll. Getting Tony off the point and McGee and Drinnon running the show will help. The team’s asset is height, their liability is speed. Come on Paul, wake up. — Long Time Season Ticket Holder And 79 Alum.

THE MAIN ISSUE that directly contributed to the debacle in Cruces was Coach Weir’s stubbornness for not adjusting his defensive philosophy in relation to the opponent. It’s painfully obvious that NMSU is well equipped to handle the pressure. Beat the pressure, and UNM defenders are out of position to defend the rim effectively and rebound. In my humble opinion, Coach Weir should have slowed the game way down, play in the half court, given the talent of the Aggies, to give the Lobos a fighter’s chance to stay close if not eke out a W. — John J. LOBOS VS AGGIES: Looks like we stole the wrong coach? — Jonathan A. in Moriarty

AGGIE SUPPORTERS here in the Duke City taking the high road after a couple of big beat downs on the Lobos. Hmmm, I like it. Karma is a you know what. — New Mexico True, SPX ’81, NMSU ’85

I SUGGEST IT’S past time for NM football to consider dropping down to the FCS, formerly known as Division 1-AA. They would join teams like North Dakota, Eastern Washington, Maine, and Delaware, which are all good football programs but cost much less money to support and recruit. It’s highly unlikely that UNM will ever be competitive in the FBS. —PD

WE CERTAINLY NEED to get some aggressive marketing going in the UNM Athletic Department but it seems that we learn something new each day in this “UNM Nightmare.” What in the world are Deputy ADs doing with 4 plus year contracts in the first place? They should be employed to serve at the discretion of the AD with maybe 1 year contracts. It seems like a friendly split. I guess maybe a $175,000 buyout will make it so. Maybe another fired UNM employee playing weekday golf? Seems like a good deal to me. — ABQ Linkster

WHILE THE AG is doing an investigation of UNM Athletics, they should also check out the Regents on board at that time for not doing the job that they were appointed to do. Either they didn’t care what was going on or didn’t give cahoots. — Lobo4ever 62

SORRY JOHN, but obviously you don’t get it. A big part of what makes Nick Saban a great coach is all that talent that wants to play for him. That talent made Mike Locksley look good, far better than he actually is. 5 stars go to Alabama like basketball 5 stars go to Duke. — Not a Duke or Bama fan
