PETS OF THE WEEK

-

ESPAÑOLA HUMANE

Come to Española Humane to meet two friendly and fabulous felines. First, meet

Garde, who is quite the social butterfly. He is a playful and fun 9-week-old ginger kitten. He likes treats, tall cat towers and feather toys. He is all kitten so if he does not have toys or other kittens, boredom may make him destructive. This loving and kind kitten who is great with people has done well with litter-box training. Garde has an outgoing personality, but he has never met dogs so, if his new family has a dog, the meeting must go slow.

Also meet Cherry Coke. This boy is a purring machine. He loves cozy bedding and purrs like a motor when petted. He also loves his dangly toys and scratching posts, but is also fond of quiet napping spots. He does great with other cats, so a partner would keep him busy. He is about 12 weeks old and was not wanted by his previous owners. He has a luxurious coat, so regular brushing will be required, but he is worth it. Cherry Coke would do great with an owner excited to learn what kitty likes best.

These two and many others may be adopted daily from 10:30 a.m.-5 p.m. at Española Humane, 108 Hamm Parkway in Española. 505-753-8662. To see more adoptable pets, log on to www. evalleyshelter.org or www.petango.com.

SF ANIMAL SHELTER & HUMANE SOCIETY

Stop by the Santa Fe Animal Shelter & Humane Society to meet Mama. She is an 18-pound two-year-old terrier mix who came to Santa Fe with a litter of puppies. She was initially assessed as being a bit standoffish but, since weaning her puppies, Mama has warmed up considerably and loves people.

Roco is a year-and-a-half-old domestic longhaired kitty. He came to us because his owner passed away, and he is ready to find a new home. Roco weighs about 13 pounds, which we think is a good weight for him. He is super sweet and loves to cuddle.

These and other animals are available for adoption from the Santa Fe Animal Shelter at 100 Caja del Rio Road. The shelter’s adoption hours are from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. daily. Follow us on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram. See these pets and others up for adoption online at www.sfhumanesociety.org or call 983-4309 ext. 610.

Visit adoptable animals in the community on Saturday from noon-3 p.m. at Teca Tu, a Pawsworthy Pet Emporium, at the DeVargas Center, 165 Paseo de Peralta, and again on Sunday from noon-3 p.m. at PetSmart Santa Fe, 3561 Zafarano Dr.

On Thursday, Dec. 13, the shelter is hosting its annual open house. Hundreds of farolitos will blanket the shelter’s campus in a warm glow, and there will be bonfires, hot beverages and cookies to enjoy. Santa will also be on hand to visit with the children. There will be music by the Choral Arts Society from St. Michaels School & Friends, harpist Miriam Shilling, and blessings from St. Francis Cathedral and Native American blessings. Root 66 Vegan Food Truck will be at the event offering delicious food for a small fee, with a portion of the proceeds benefiting the shelter. The open house is from 5-7 p.m. at the Santa Fe Animal Shelter and Humane Society, 100 Caja Del Rio Road. Free. 983-4309 or sfhumanesociety.org.
