ARISE Music & Coffee, which was created to support the local music scene, is now helping local children and the hungry. Tonight’s ARISE Music & Coffee Christmas Shindig benefits CLNkids, formerly known as Cuidando Los Niños, which aids homeless children, and Roadrunner Food Bank.

“We’re interested in helping the community as best that we can,” said Mike Trujillo, co-founder of ARISE Music & Coffee. “We enjoy helping children in Albuquerque, and (during this time of year) it is difficult for some people to afford food, and we want to help.”

The event will feature performances by local bands Moonshine Blind, The Talking Hours, Musnttouchit, Manhigh, ANDRAKO and DJ Buddha Funk.

“Moonshine Blind is more of bluegrass rock,” Trujillo said. “The Talking Hours is a married couple, sort of hard rock with elements of electronic and postpunk. Musnttouchit is tough, it’s dirty rock, and Manhigh is another married couple, but they are a trio, they are interesting hard rock, instrumental, kind of hard to nail, kind of pop rock, and ANDRAKO is more industrial metal, heavy metal.”

ARISE Music & Coffee is an extension of the holdmyticket.com box office at 112 Second SW. ARISE showcases local band merchandise as well as records, tapes, CDs and more.

“We wanted to help the music scene expand and be a place where local musicians can come by and let people know about their music and come Downtown if they just need a spot to hang out,” said Roman Barham, ARISE Music & Coffee co-founder.
