SPORTS SPEAK UP!

- sportsspeakup@abqjournal.com

SINCE ANTHONY MATHIS doesn’t start anymore, I guess he’s not much of a “deflector”... but he sure can shoot the 3-ball (UNM can’t afford to start slowly out of the gate vs. Nevada this Saturday). “Senior Night” will be on a weeknight, Wednesday, March 6, after the 9 p.m. game vs. Boise State. Since most fans won’t be around to honor Mathis and Dane Kuiper for the postgame ceremonies which will end toward midnight, maybe the fans might want to step up their appreciative applause for these two seniors during the next few home games?

KUDOS TO Attorney General Hector Balderas’ office for pursuing the investigation of UNM athletic funds. Previously I pointed out that if you rob a bank and give the money back you still robbed the bank! I and others are no longer members of the Lobo Club. This mess needs to be resolved. Hopefully Balderas will get to the bottom of this and I’m sure others involved and UNM staff will start singing because I don’t think those involved are getting a good night’s sleep. AG Balderas, those in the law enforcement community applaud you.

IT NEVER CEASES to amaze me on how sports fan here expects the world from our Athletics but refuse to pay for anything. This is the only place in America where we do this type of damage to ourselves by bringing the AG office into an athletic program when they should be going after criminals. No one anywhere else would even care about stuff like this. Were mistakes made? Yes, but this goes on a lot more places than you think.

PERHAPS PAUL KREBS should consider an Alford plea. We will all be interested to see how an orange jumpsuit pairs with cherry and silver.

DOES UNM offer a remedial course in” Righteousness?” It should! It should also restore the sports programs it cut.
