Victim dies a week after shooting

DEMING — A suspect is facing first-degree murder charges after the victim in the case died a week after being shot multiple times.

Authorities believe Gabriel Roque, 35, shot Steven Worthen multiple times on Jan. 27 inside Worthen’s home. Roque was identified as the suspect and arrested hours after the shooting.

Worthen succumbed to his injuries at an El Paso hospital on Feb. 3. He was 42.

Roque was originally charged with attempted murder, tampering with evidence, abuse of a child and four counts of intimidation of a witness. Authorities amended the attempted murder charge to first-degree murder.
