NMSU softball dominates in tournament finale
The New Mexico State softball team closed out the N.M. State Invitational with its second-straight run-rule victory when the Aggies dominated Creighton 9-1 in five innings at the New Mexico State Softball Complex.
NMSU (4-0) got off to a hot start offensively, beginning with a two-run home run by former Volcano Vista Hawk Victoria Castro, her third homer so far this season. After Nikki Butler drew a walk, freshman Mya Felder cranked a long ball out to left field, giving NMSU the 4-0 lead over Creighton (1-4).
The New Mexico State momentum carried into the second inning when it loaded the bases. Felder hit into a fielder’s choice, but a throwing error by the Bluejays’ catcher allowed another NMSU runner to cross the plate. An RBI single by Brandy Hernandez in the third extended the 6-0 lead, and a three-run homer by Felder, her second of the day, put the Aggies ahead 9-0 in the fourth.
