HOROSCOPES BY HOLIDAY

-

TODAY’S BIRTHDAY (Feb. 17): What was, in years past, unrealistic to want now becomes accessible. It’s a sign that you’ve arrived and the opening of a new chapter in which you can form your life around your ideals. The most satisfying part is when projects pay out and you’re able to be generous and make a difference in the world. Leo and Sagittarius adore you. Your lucky numbers are: 6, 32, 11, 48 and 25.

ARIES (March 21-April 19): You act and you never know where the ripple goes. That’s why it’s important to set yourself in a good direction before you ever leave the house. Get into the mood to do some good.

TAURUS (April 20-May 20): You’ll receive contradictory advice from a variety of sources. You can take this lack of consensus as a sign to turn inward. Ask your gut and go with that. You won’t be sorry you did.

GEMINI (May 21-June 21): People don’t change their minds because they learn the scientific data, but they may change because of the way they are directly affected by a thing or because of the way they relate to a personal story.

CANCER (June 22-July 22): You may plan something and look forward to it and then, when the time comes, not feel like going out. Give yourself a little pep talk and push, because you’ll make a memory if you go out — and enjoy it for years to come.

LEO (July 23-Aug. 22): The aim is clear, and now you need to find the right discipline to get there. Most likely, it won’t be the same thing that works for friends and colleagues; it will be something you find on your own.

VIRGO (Aug. 23-Sept. 22): The better you abide in your own natural state the more contentment you’ll feel. Knowing what that state is and feels like and recognizing when you’re in it (or not) is the order of the day.

LIBRA (Sept. 23-Oct. 23): You’re not who they think you are — but you’re not who you think you are, either. In fact, thinking is beside the point. Your being goes deeper, wider and brighter than anything that could be encapsulated in a thought.

SCORPIO (Oct. 24-Nov. 21): You’ve reverence for what others might consider ordinary because of your broader view of things in space and time. You see connections to the whole. You see past, present and future. Nothing is only what it is.

SAGITTARIUS (Nov. 22-Dec. 21): There are times when you can simply tell yourself what to do and it sticks. Then there’s now. The rebel in you will do the opposite of what anyone says, especially you, until you somehow answer the rebel’s demands.

CAPRICORN (Dec. 22-Jan. 19): The tension you feel is telling you something. Maybe it’s pointing to a cognitive dissonance. Maybe what you’re trying to do or who you’re trying to be isn’t a good fit. How can you make this more “you”?

AQUARIUS (Jan. 20-Feb. 18): There’s a shift in your approach. You’ll go at it from a different angle, and things suddenly and markedly improve. It boils down to this: Ask a better question, get a better answer.

PISCES (Feb. 19-March 20): You used to see yourself in a certain way, and though that version of you has been updated many times over by now, old identities die hard. Work on it. Overwrite the old code with some new adjectives.

FORECAST FOR THE WEEK AHEAD: It starts with the sun diving into spiritual, empathetic Pisces. Considering the other factors of the astral lineup, we’re in some emotional complexity this opening week of the Pisces sun. It might be wrongheaded to assume that everyone wants peace and/or happiness. We’re all a little more complicated than that. Sometimes we crave drama and thrive in discomfort or worse. To correctly survey the emotional landscape will require that we drop our preconceptions.

The supermoon in the realm of Virgo will bring attention to the Virgoan themes of health and nurturing and the various ways we give and take care. Though it shouldn’t have to be an either/or proposition, there are so many who forgo self-care in the name of taking care of others. Perhaps the environmental cues are easier to heed than internal nudges, and there’s usually external reinforcement and possibly reward that comes with being of service. Maybe it will help to think of self-care as what it really is: a gesture of love and kindness toward all of life.
