NHCC COURTYARD GETS A NAME
National Hispanic Cultural Center names courtyard for donor
Businessman Anthony D. Trujillo secures naming rights at National Hispanic Cultural Center.
Anthony D. Trujillo has supported the National Hispanic Cultural Center — fiscally and otherwise. The Albuquerque-based business owner is taking it one step further by securing the naming rights to the NHCC Fountain Courtyard, as well as the corridor leading to the NHCC History and Literary Arts Building.
The NHCC board of directors approved the agreement June 19.
Trujillo pledged to give the NHCC Foundation $300,000 over a 10-year period.
The area will be known as the
Anthony D. Trujillo Courtyard and Corridor.
Roberta Ricci, NHCC Foundation director, said Trujillo has also volunteered a lot of his time for the NHCC as well as recently serving as a member of the foundation.
“He really loves the center,” she said. “The naming opportunity for him was so deep and leaving a legacy for his children is something he wanted to do. He feels it falls in line with the (center’s) mission.”
According to the agreement, Trujillo will pay $30,000 on July 31. The payments will continue on the same date through 2028.
Alberto Cuessy, acting NHCC executive director, said the naming rights possibility presented itself in 2018, but the deal was put on hold because the center’s leadership was changing.
“Thanks to the hard work of Roberta, she was able to mend (the deal) and save the relationship,” Cuessy said.
He said some of the money would be used to improve the courtyard, and to meet the NHCC’s capital, operating and programmatic needs, including the costs of creating and installing the signage recognizing the named areas.
The NHCC Foundation will receive 5% of each payment for operating expenses.
