McDonald’s seeking out seniors as employees
Three days of job fairs begin today, all ages urged to apply
Garza-owned McDonald’s, in cooperation with New Mexico Workforce Connection and American Association of Retired Persons, is hosting hiring fairs from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. today through Thursday targeting adults and especially senior citizens.
“Some of our best employees are older adults and seniors who serve as mentors to our younger staff, have great social skills, a strong work ethic, and get to take advantage of ... education assistance program for themselves and their families while improving their quality of life,” Garza McDonald’s owner/operator, Clemy Garza said in a statement.
The Archways to Opportunity program allows an employee who has worked at least 90 days to be eligible to receive up to $2,500 per year in tuition for any accredited educational program. They can include seeking a high school diploma, a college degree, or learning English as a second language. Immediate family are eligible for Archways benefits too.
Garza-owned McDonald’s perks include holiday incentives, complimentary food, retailer discounts, and free quarterly movies for employees and their families, bonuses, and a wide variety of hourly pay, the company said in a news release.
Thirteen Garza-owned McDonald’s restaurants have hired 63 seniors since September 2018, 50 years old and up, the company said.

Today — McMahon and Unser (5700 McMahon Blvd NW)
Wednesday — Bernalillo on NM-550 (248 E. Hwy 44 Bernalillo)
Thursday — Pat D’Arco Hwy and South- ern (1390 Rio Rancho Blvd., Rio Rancho)
