Hodges nabs national award
The Petroleum Marketers Association of America has given its national 2019 Distinguished Service Award to Benny Hodges, president and CEO of Hodges Oil Company Inc. in Belen.
“It never dawned on me that I would be considered, much less receive such a prestigious award,” Hodges said in a statement. “It still seems surreal to me to be placed into the same category as the previous recipients.”
Hodges Oil Company is a third-generation owned petroleum business that specializes in wholesale fuel deliveries. It began in 1923 when Benny’s maternal grandfather Frank Trainer began as a commissioned agent for Continental Oil, officials said in a news release.
Benney’s dad, also Benny Hodges, took over the business and ran it until his passing in 1969. At that point, his son Benny took over to “keep it going.” In 1978 he incorporated the business into Hodges Oil Company.
He has served on the board of the New Mexico Petroleum Marketers Association as well as the Western Petroleum Marketers Association for over 25 years. He has been president of both associations.
Hodges is the father of six children, 12 grandchildren, and a greatgrandchild on the way. He and his wife Mary Ellen have been married for 36 years and both work together in the business.
The award will be presented at a luncheon in his honor in October at the Hyatt Regency Atlanta during the PMAA Fall Meeting at the NACS Show.
