SANTA FE — Two men were shot in Las Vegas, N.M., on Saturday, one of them fatally.

Another man has been connected to both of the shootings but is charged with only one of them.

The Las Vegas Police Department says 42-yearold Mark “Marcos” Carrillo was shot once with an unknown caliber bullet and was found unresponsive in a house on Union Street around 7 p.m. Saturday.

Earlier that day, another man, Gilbert Montoya, was allegedly shot three times by 40-year-old Marcos Ruiz and was treated at the Las Vegas hospital.

Ruiz was booked into the San Miguel County jail on one count of aggravated battery with a deadly weapon and one count of being a convicted felon in possession of a firearm for shooting Montoya.

Ruiz lives in the same house where Carrillo was found dead, but LVPD Cmdr. Steven Pacheco says Ruiz not a suspect in the homicide.

According to charging documents, Montoya was found with gunshot wounds on his stomach, right leg and right wrist at a house on Perez Street. Montoya’s aunt told officers that she heard a loud noise and went outside to find Montoya walking to the house with gunshot wounds. She later told police that Ruiz shot him.

As an officer was speaking to the woman, a call came over the radio for police to respond to Ruiz’s house after Ruiz’s mother called 911 and said a male, later identified as Carrillo, was lying on the floor.

Ruiz’s mother told police that she was at the house and Ruiz, Montoya and Carrillo all were also present. She left the house and came back to find Carrillo on the floor.

“At this time no suspects have been identified and are still being sought,” Pacheco said in an email.

There now have been three shootings, two of them resulting in deaths, in Las Vegas in the past month. Pacheco said the Saturday cases are not related to the shooting death of 48-yearold Leroy “Smurf” Lucero outside his Las Vegas home on July 22.
