‘RAISED ON COUNTRY’

Chris Young headlines tour with Chris Janson, LoCash

- BY ADRIAN GOMEZ

Chris Young always looks forward to a new tour.

This time around, it’s a little more special.

“We took everything back to zero and started over,” he says of his tour. “There’s a new set and set list. I’m also getting ready to drop another single from the upcoming album.”

That song is a duet with Lauren Alaina, “Town Ain’t Big Enough,” which debuted at No. 12 on the Billboard Country Digital Song Sales Chart on July 27.

The single is the second to be released from Young’s coming album, which will be released later this year.

One single is “Raised on Country,” written by Young, Corey Crowder and Cary Barlowe, and the other is “Drowning,” written with Crowder and Josh Hoge.

He is touring with Chris Jamson and LoCash and the tour makes a stop at Isleta Amphitheater on Thursday, August 15.

Young says the two songs are opposites of each other.

“Streaming is the way people consume music now, and it’s important to keep the songs coming,” he says. “We spent a lot of time on the song with Lauren. We were all working in the same room, and it just came together. ‘Drowning’ was written in memory of a close friend of mine. Seeing people fall in love with the songs still amazes me.”

The 34-year-old country singer has made an imprint in country music since beginning music in 2002.

His profile began to rise in 2006 after he won the singing competition “Nashville Star.”

Signed to RCA Nashville, Young has released seven albums, two of which went to No. 1 — 2015’s “I’m Comin’ Over” and 2017’s “Losing Sleep.”

Young does put a little more pressure on himself as his career progresses.

He’s putting more of himself into the writing.

“The inspiration varies from song to song,” he says. “There’s different ways of opening yourself up. Like for ‘Drowning,’ because it is about a friend of mine that I lost, I had to get the right idea and angle to write that. It took a lot of searching to get it right. That’s the most fun about doing what I do. It’s about being open enough to let a song in and then work on it and release it to the world. I had so much fun working on this album. I can’t believe it’s going to be No. 8 on my list. I am grateful every day for this opportunity.”
