Carol (Milligan) Shelton

-

A consummate cheerleader of family, friends and countless employees over the years, Carol Shelton died peacefully on July 30, 2019 at age 65 after a courageous battle with cancer. Her greatest pride and joy was supporting her sons, Drake Shelton and Spencer Shelton, on all of their journeys in life. She is survived by her sons, mother Betty Milligan and sister Charla Rice, and is preceded in death by her father Dr. Charles Darwin Milligan and sister Lila Milligan Boyden.

Born in Fort Sumner and raised in Albuquerque, New Mexico, she graduated from West Mesa High School and UNM Anderson School of Business. She dedicated her career to coaching others to their full potential with empathy, integrity, and loyalty. For 27 years she served as HR Director for Lovelace Health Systems, most recently at Lovelace Women’s Hospital, where she was an ardent advocate for both employees and the organization. Carol was passionate about supporting causes that advance the wellbeing of women and children, and served on the board of Women’s Hospital and the Domestic Violence Resource Center. She was a member of the Advisory Council of Employers for the Department of Labor, and was appointed by the New Mexico Secretary of Children, Youth and Families to the Childcare Advisory Committee Focus Foundation of NM. Her faith in Jesus Christ brought her great comfort and promise.

We cannot help but smile and share stories when we reflect upon her zest for life, boisterous laugh, and magnetic love of dance. She will be remembered for her huge heart – encouraging happiness, joy and kindness for everyone she knew, every step of the way.

Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, August 15 at Calvary Church, 4001 Osuna Road NE. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Domestic Violence Resource Center or any charitable organization of your choice.
