Johnny M. Stuckey

-

Johnny M. Stuckey was born 97 years ago in rural Mississippi.

Johnny joined the Navy in 1940 and was a Pearl Harbor survivor, serving on the U.S.S Hull 350 for 4 years. He was in every major battle in the Pacific and was very fortunate to be away from the ship when it sunk from Typhoon Cobra. He was certainly part of the "Greatest Generation."

He met Jacque Saunders at New Mexico Highlands University and married in 1947. After graduating he taught high school physics and chemistry in Des Moines,New Mexico. They moved to Albuquerque in 1951 where he began his career at Sandia National Labs as a tech writer and later as a safety engineer. After many years and tens of 1000s of miles of riding his bike to and from work, he retired in 1985. He continued to use his bike as his primary mode of transportation for many years of retirement.

He was a faithful husband and loving, involved father who never missed any of his kids’ activities and was a DeMolay Dad. He took his family to church and he loved walking, hiking, biking and square dancing. In retirement he enjoyed RVing, teaching his grandsons how to camp, taking cruises with Jacque and the whole family, working at the polls for many elections, and doing tax returns for AARP for many years.

Johnny lived a long and fruitful life passing away on Tuesday, August 6. He is survived by Jacque, his wife of 72 years, son John E. Stuckey and daughterin-law, Mitzi of Dayton, Ohio, and daughter Marsha and son-in-law Kevin McMullan of Albuquerque, two grandsons Matthew McMullan and wife Jennifer of Atlanta, and David McMullan and wife Elisabeth, and greatgranddaughter, Hadley of Dallas, Texas.

Services will be held in the chapel of Manzano del Sol, 5201 Roma NE at 2:00 pm on Saturday, August 10. The family requests that in lieu of flowers that dona- tions be made to Hospice of New Mexico or a charity of your choice.
